Hello Steel has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing capabilities with the commissioning of a fourth continuous hot-dip galvalume coating line at its Port City facility, increasing total annual production capacity by 40% to 1.05 million metric tons.
The $78 million investment, which began construction in March 2023, represents the company’s largest single capital project to date and comes in response to sustained demand growth from construction and infrastructure markets across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
“This expansion directly addresses the supply constraints our customers have faced over the past 18 months,” said Zhang Ming, Chief Operations Officer at Hello Steel. “With this new line operational, we can reduce lead times from 6-8 weeks to 3-4 weeks for standard specifications, while maintaining the quality consistency that has defined our brand.”

The new coating line, supplied by German engineering firm SMS group, features several
technological advancements that set it apart from existing industry standards:

The expansion strengthens Hello Steel’s position as one of the top three exporters of coated steel products from China’s northern port region. Industry analysts project that the additional capacity will help stabilize regional pricing volatility that has affected construction projects throughout 2023-2024.

The facility has been designed with environmental performance as a core priority. A closed-loop water treatment system reduces freshwater consumption by 70% compared to conventional designs, while waste heat recovery from the curing ovens generates sufficient energy to power all auxiliary operations.
The project has also achieved preliminary certification under the China Green Building Materials program, with full three-star rating expected following the completion of a six-month operational assessment period.
With the new line reaching steady-state production by March 2025, Hello Steel expects to increase its export volume to key markets including Vietnam, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. The company is also evaluating additional investments in slit-to-width and cut-to-length processing capabilities to offer further value-added services.
“This is not just about volume,” Zhang emphasized. “It’s about building the operational flexibility to serve our customers as true partners in their supply chains, with the speed and customization capabilities that modern construction demands.”
